WAAK packages Chocolatier Vandenbulcke’s sustainable, fairtrade chocolate
Sustainability is very important at WAAK. We enjoy collaborating with like-minded companies. An excellent example of such a company is Chocolatier Vandenbulcke, for whom we package chocolate. Partnering up with a social enterprise is in itself a sustainable choice because it provides long-term employment for people who have difficulties accessing the labour market. Recently, Chocolatier Vandenbulcke decided to enhance their sustainable approach by using only Fairtrade cocoa in their products. This clearly shows the company’s environmental and social awareness and will strengthen the trust of their customers.
Collaborating with a social enterprise, a sustainable choice
As a proud SDG Champion, sustainability is an essential part of our business strategy. For us this works in two ways. On one hand, we provide our workers with sustainable jobs that offer them long-term stability. On the other hand, we like to collaborate with sustainable, like-minded companies that produce products that are beneficial to society and the environment. We also try to convey this message to our partners. We encourage them to look at their production processes from a different and potentially more sustainable angle.
WAAK Packaging: specialised in packing food and non-food products
WAAK Packaging is specialised in packing food and non-food products. In order to pack food products, WAAK has a conditioned, IFS-certified (certification for dry food packaging) space. This allows WAAK to pack products that are very sensitive to moisture, temperature and oxidation, such as chocolate. Chocolate Santa Clause figures, Easter eggs, luxury chocolate gifts for Christmas or New Year, they’re all professionally packed by our skilled packaging employees. We mostly work with local partners, but the chocolate is exported worldwide.
Using Fairtrade cocoa, a deliberate choice
We have a long-term partnership with Chocolatier Vandenbulcke. For the packing of their products, they choose WAAK, because they believe in our mission to provide sustainable jobs for people who have difficulties accessing the labour market. Although the chocolate is produced sustainably, this is not always the case for its main ingredient: cocoa. Its cultivation causes environmental and socio-economic problems such as deforestation, exploitation, child labour and poor working conditions. Chocolatier Vandenbulcke does not want to contribute to such practices. They aim to sell a product that is both ethical and sustainable. Therefore, Vandenbulcke deliberately chooses to use only Fairtrade-certified cocoa.
What does the Fairtrade certification mean?
If a product carries the Fairtrade label, it means that it has been produced in a sustainable and ethical way, i.e., the producers receive fair prices for their products, work under good labour conditions, and production does not harm the environment. The origins of the chocolate are fully transparent and traceable from producer to consumer.

Creating trust among conscious consumers
As a sustainable social enterprise, we commend Chocolatier Vandenbulcke for their decision to use only Fairtrade cocoa, which aligns with their choice to collaborate with WAAK for the packaging of their products. This not only ensures a fair income for cocoa farmers but also supports our workers - people who have difficulties accessing the labour market – by providing them with a stable income. Additionally, it creates trust among environmentally and socially conscious consumers, which will further strengthen their brand. We are proud to be part of this initiative.
